This week was such a pleasant and smooth week. The students worked steadily and peace reigned at HRA.
Congratulations to the seniors, Michelle Tobia and Margarita Drews, for hosting a wonderful dance for the high school The Hawaiian theme and decorations were a hit with the crowd. The students came in costume and had a great time swing dancing, waltzing, line-dancing and forming a conga line.
The First and Second Graders have reason to celebrate and feel so proud of themselves. They celebrated the 100th day of school on Friday, January 27th by enjoying a well-earned day off from regular classes. For the last two and a half months they have been collecting cans to give to a food pantry here in town. Their goal was 100 cans for the 100th day of school. As our students so often do, they far surpassed that number and collected 350 cans! They traveled to FISH, an all-volunteer food bank that delivers groceries to homes throughout Anchorage, to stock the pantry. It was an exciting day for these young community servants!
Mr. Fleming has graciously taken over as our Business Manager and is sending a note home to many of you to double-check whether our billing information is correct. Mr. Verdun, thankfully, is sending information to us from California so that we can be true to all that you parents have arranged with us for tuition payment. Bear with us if you will while we catch up on the December and January billing. We are so grateful for your patience and understanding as we continue to try to serve you well.
I had the privilege of visiting the sixth grade this week and was so gratified to read their excellent essays on Napoleon Bonaparte. They are already revealing themselves to be excellent thinkers and writers.
The high school Drama, Debate and Forensics team compete this weekend in Lincoln-Douglass debate and other speech competitions (Impromptu, Oral Interpretation etc…) at West High School. I look forward to sharing with you the results of their first effort as a team. HRA is so proud of how well they have already prepared in a week and a half! Go Knights!
The HRA Knights junior high volleyball team plays at Lumen Christi Friday, January 27th at 4 P.M. Consider coming to cheer them on.
Catholic Schools Week comes up next week. To celebrate, we will be joining Lumen Christi and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton at the SEAS parish February 1st at 1:30 P.M. for a special mass with the Archbishop presiding. All parents are welcome to join us. Share hours are available for anyone wishing to drive for us. Please contact Mrs. Erin Furby if you can assist us.

A letter will be coming to you to alert you to the beginning of the Centurion Project beginning February 1st.. All parents who have selected the discount tuition option are responsible for supplying HRA with names and addresses to send out our annual fund drive appeal letter. Please be sure to send your addresses to our Board member, Krissy Johannes, after you receive your letter. There is also a page on our website under “About Us” that allows donors to use PayPal to donate online. This is our final major fundraiser of the year. Thank you for all that you can do to support this effort.
